Seven years ago, one of our apprentices sustained a thumb fracture while hard-stamping a steel assembly. Like all incidents at NEACH, this was thoroughly investigated to uncover the cause and prevent it from happening again. The culprit? A classic “line of fire” issue. When a hammer meets a hard stamp, the thumb holding the stamp often comes off second best. It was a painful moment, but it highlighted an opportunity to improve.

From Problem to Solution

The investigation inspired our team to rethink how we use stamps. Instead of accepting the risk, we engineered it out of the process. Enter the custom stamp holder: a tool designed in-house to securely grip the stamp while keeping hands away from the hammer’s line of fire. This simple yet effective innovation revolutionised our approach. With the custom stamp holder in place, we’ve removed hands from harm’s way—and with it, the risk of thumb injuries.

Since introducing the custom stamp holder, we’re proud to report zero hand injuries from complex stamping. That’s seven years of incident-free stamping, all thanks to a tool that’s as practical as it is effective.
