Award Winning Noosa Bus Shelters

Reflecting on one of our standout projects – the fabrication of Noosa’s Councils bus shelters.

Award-Winning Collaboration

The distinctive design of the bus shelters, created by Majstorovic Architecture, won the Regional Project of the Year Award and a Regional Commendation Award at the 2016 Sunshine Coast Regional Architecture Awards, hosted by the Australian Institute of Architects. The recognition at these awards highlighted the project’s exceptional quality and its positive impact on the community. The design’s success has also advanced to the Queensland Architecture Awards, showcasing its broader significance.

A Unique Contribution to Noosa

This project was a successful collaboration between local businesses, we worked alongside Majstorovic Architecture, Bock Architecture and Tod Consulting Engineers to transform the council’s vision into an award-winning, locally-made bus shelter. The shelters are a distinctive feature in Noosa, blending seamlessly with the local environment while offering modern functionality.

The design brief called for a low-maintenance, hard-wearing structure that not only complements Noosa’s unique aesthetic but also adheres to new disability access standards. The new shelters replaced outdated models from the 1980s, significantly improving safety and accessibility for all passengers, including older individuals and those with disabilities. The shelters are designed to minimise ongoing maintenance costs, making them a practical and sustainable addition to the community.

Efficient and Functional Design

One of the project’s standout features was the efficient installation process of the bus shelters. We prefabricated the shelters off-site, and the shelters could be installed in as little as two hours, demonstrating an innovative approach that accommodates various site constraints. This not only ensured a seamless integration into the existing landscape but also minimised disruption to the local area.
